[Rep. Kim Yong-min's Office] <Mayor Oh Se-hoon's acquittal in the second trial is hard to understand> Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon's case regarding the 'Myung Tae-gyun opinion poll cost proxy payment' was overturned to an acquittal in the second trial. In the first trial, the court acknowledged the commissioning of 5 opinion polls and a sponsor's proxy payment of 21 million won, sentencing him to a penalty that would strip him of his mayoral position. However, the appellate court overturned the facts established by the first trial, stating that Myung Tae-gyun's testimony was hard to believe, and ruled that neither the commissioning of the polls nor the request for proxy payment was proven. The intent of the Political Funds Act is to hold someone accountable if a third party pays for opinion polls received ahead of an election. It is questionable whether this ruling aligns with that intent. The same court previously overturned a guilty verdict in the first trial and acquitted Yoon Suk-yeol in the 'Myung Tae-gyun opinion poll' case. Kim Keon-hee also received acquittals in both the first and second trials regarding the same opinion poll charges. The sentences of those involved in the rebellion were also significantly reduced. In the appeals court, Park Sung-jae's sentence was reduced from 25 years to 9 years in prison, and Han Duck-soo's from 23 years to 15 years.
